Austin’s version of La Cantera in San Antonio is continuing to grow with new stores and restaurants set for the booming shopping area, known as the city’s second downtown. After opening Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS last year and more recently, the viral Coach Coffee Shop, The Domain and Domain Northside will soon be welcoming several more popular retailers and eateries this year.

There are two, separately owned and managed sides to the neighboring North Austin shopping complexes: The Domain (a Simon mall) and Domain Northside, owned by Northwood Retail. The Domain is an older outdoor mall with high-end stores like Neiman Marcus, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and swanky restaurants. Whereas, the Domain Northside is newer with a slightly more laid-back vibe with a touch of luxury from stores such as Apple, Nordstrom and Nike surrounded by local bars and dining options.

Shoppers on both sides can expect newly-opened and remodeled shops plus “coming soon” signs for a Mediterranean restaurant and a Mexican Cantina taking over the former Museum of Ice Cream. Whichever side you choose, here’s a list of 8 new and upcoming stores at the Domain and Domain Northside:

Domain Northside’s new stores and restaurants

Abercrombie & Fitch

This popular New York-style retailer set plans for its first women’s only store in Texas at the Domain Northside in April. By June, Abercrombie & Fitch opened the doors to its second store in Austin, as the company also currently operates a men’s and women’s clothing store at Barton Creek Square Mall. The new Abercrombie at the Domain Northside sells solely women’s clothes including jeans, blouses, jackets and more.

Google

In late May, Google opened its first retail store in Texas at the Domain Northside. According to the Google website, this new store aims to be a “place to experience Google AI in your hands,” where you can test out and purchase Google merchandise. The store sells Google products such as Pixel phones, watches and tablets, Nest cameras, Fitbit trackers and more. Consumers can also shop online and pick-up their orders in-store for more convenience.

Ema

The team behind the award-winning Mediterranean restaurant Aba on South Congress is partnering with the Domain Northside to open its sister restaurant, Ēma. Chicago-based group, Lettuce Entertain You Restaurants, is continuing its expansion into Texas with the addition of Ēma in fall 2025. Similar to Aba, the dining experience at Ēma will be a mezze-style menu of small plates including hummus options, green falafel, kebabs and more curated by Top Chef Alum, CJ Jacobson. The 5,000-square-foot restaurant is also expected to have an expansive indoor and outdoor space, designed to transport diners to “a summer day in the Mediterranean.”

Hattie B’s

In March, Hattie B’s announced it would be opening its second Austin location at the Domain Northside. The Nashville hot chicken chain confirmed to MySA that it’s planning to open in late fall 2025. Hattie B’s serves a variety of spicy and mild tossed chicken combos from bone-in legs, thighs or wings to boneless tenders and breasts for sandwiches.

Construction is still ongoing at the Hattie B’s Domain Northside as wooden banners bearing the restaurant’s name show the site currently sealed off. No grand-opening date has been set yet, but Hattie B’s will join a slew of other casual chains and restaurants located on the same street within the shopping complex.

Zara

In June, the Domain announced on Facebook that its Zara store near Macy’s would be “closed for the next 6 months for an exciting transformation.” This is the only Zara store in Austin, so shoppers will need to either shop online or find another Texas store to shop in-person. The closest Zara stores to Austin are in San Antonio at La Cantera and North Star Mall. Zara is a Spanish fast-fashion retailer that sells men’s, women’s and kids clothing. Construction is currently underway at the Zara Domain as it remains covered with “coming soon” banners. It’s slated to be finished by December.

Owned by the Dallas-based hospitality group FB Society, Mexican Sugar began in Plano in 2013 and his since expanded to open four additional restaurants in Houston, Addison, Irving and Dallas.

Construction is still underway for the restaurant as the building remains surrounded by white “coming soon” banners. It’s slated to open in 2026.
